Health is important, and in this sisterhood, I want to make sure we talk about it all. It’s not just about getting checkups. It’s about eating healthy and staying fit. It’s about checking in with yourself when you are stressed and overwhelmed because our mental health matters too. It’s self-care (nonnegotiable), paying attention to what our body needs (is it rest or is it water), and making sure we get our endorphins going more than once a month.
JUMPING IN…
I don’t know about you, but this past week has been terrible. To the extremes. Almost everyone I know has had a disastrous week. Stolen phone, car broke down, and my bae broke up with me—kinda a week. 😭
Something must be stirring in the universe, but I am grateful for the weekend so I can reset. I use my weekends for resets.

Brunch with the girls? YES.
Pop-up bar celebrating culture and togetherness? YES.
Last-minute tickets to see the Nuggets play? YESSS.

After a week filled with adulting, running errands, and doing laundry, I need a dose of fun. By Sunday, I am prepping my food for the week, and ready to tackle the week.
Know yourself.
If you need socialization for self-care, make sure you get it. I become a feral creature when I don’t leave my house. I need air, I need atmosphere, good vibes, and laughs. All in that order. Do emotional check ins to see what you personally need for your health.

EATING…
I do not feel guilty for wanting “bad food.” For one, there is no bad food. Everything in moderation. Donuts are delicious; just don’t do it every morning. I love coffee, but I try to limit my mornings to 1 cup. Do I need two cups on those rough mornings? YESSS. ☕️
Do I feel guilty for it? NOPE.
If I wake up and want a delicious, sweet concoction, then I choose waffles or fruit drizzled with chocolate. I compromise and eat a salad for lunch. It’s all about balance.

STAY FIT! 🥊
I quit my gym several months ago, and for awhile I went for walks, and that was fine. Then I realized I needed more. I bought a walking pad and a medicine ball. I added weights and am continuously adding to my mini gym.
Do I use the walking pad every day? No…and that is okay.
I live on the 2nd floor, so if when I leave the apartment, I choose the stairs instead of the elevator. Every little bit helps. Being active is the goal. This could be going for a run or joining a free group class at your local rec center.

GET A CHECKUP 🩺
You are not a doctor, and if you happen to be a doctor, YOU still need a checkup. Getting blood work done regularly is important because it tells an internal story of what is going on with your body. Ignoring the signs of your health is a dangerous game and one that will come full circle if you don’t take care of it. No matter your age, go to the doctor…get a checkup. It’s better to know and take diligent steps for your well-being, instead of being in the dark.
