World Bartender Day was 02/24!

I want to be YOUR bartender and share a fun bartender story and mocktail. No matter how old you are, you should have a fun story of being at a bar, having a drink with friends, or mixing mocktails with your girls (sisters).

My favorite alcoholic drink is an espresso martini.

It’s chocolate, it’s coffee, it’s perfo. I found a mocktail chocolate martini that looks just as delicious. (At the end of this post)

Why sacrifice having your favorite beverage? There are mocktail versions of almost every alcoholic twin, and there are mocktail mixes you can try. Pretty soon you will be a mixology expert!

I think the evolving changes shows the beverage industry has come a long way since the 1930s (the “mocktail” was born out of necessity when alcohol was banned). These were largely simple, sweet, and designed to mask the absence of alcohol)*

When I turned 21, the non-alcoholic options were limited, and Zima was one of the few choices.

The commercials at least were very cheesy. 👇🏽

Now…some more facts:

  • The “Zero-Proof” Revolution: Specialized non-alcoholic spirits (e.g., Seedlip), bitters, and mixers are used to create, not just mimic, complex drinks.
  • Functional Focus: Many mocktails now include health-focused additives like adaptogens (ashwagandha), nootropics, and plant-based supplements designed for wellness.
  • Cultural Shift: The rise of mindful consumption and the “sober curious” movement has led to dedicated, sophisticated menu spaces for non-alcoholic options, making them a premium experience rather than an afterthought.

Fun story time!

My favorite bartender story is from December of last year. I was meeting a date, and we had never met before. I arrived first and ordered a beer. The bartender and I started chatting, and I told him I was waiting for my date that I met on Hinge. He said, “I hope it goes well.”

I nodded in agreement.

He said, “If he gets weird, let me know. I have a bat behind the bar, just in case.”

I appreciate that, I told him.

The bat was not needed, but I felt less anxious knowing it existed. The bartender was an ally if things went south. Being a single female can be scary in the dating world. It’s a challenge navigating through life to find a true person. I hope all bartenders take their jobs seriously when it comes to keeping their customers safe.

Enjoy this chocolatey mocktail below, and I hope you enjoy World Bartender Day!
