It’s summer, it’s Juneteenth, and the weather is perfect (in some states). These are the ingredients for a celebration! 🎉 🎊 🙌

This year is different.

It feels different. There is tension with the current administration, and disagreements persist, with inflation showing no signs of improvement.

One of the significant changes is the White House’s stance on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) and the observance of Juneteenth. The holiday is not banned, but a few cities in states have canceled their Juneteenth events (IN, OR, & IL. Read more here:

If you are a government employee, it is no longer considered a federal holiday. Sadly, we only had the opportunity to have the day as a federal holiday for three years.

One thing about social media is that it is easy to bring people together. Create a post about celebrating Juneteenth and see if anyone would like to connect (safely, of course).

Eventbrite is my favorite website to look for events (online and in person). I enjoy buying merch from black-owned owners during this time of year. I double-check to ensure the company is black-owned, as some entrepreneurs may misrepresent themselves. I want to support black businesses to circulate the dollar accurately!

I am excited to attend a Juneteenth Event this year. It will be my first Juneteenth event in Colorado. I don’t know why I waited this long to attend one, but it’s never too late!
