How Is It Already the End of June?!
Seriously—how did that happen? One minute, we’re welcoming summer, and the next it’s flying by faster than a bullet train. I hope you’re soaking up the sunshine and finding joy in the little things this season. And if you’re not quite there yet, don’t worry—there’s still time, Sis.
Let’s talk about something important: Juneteenth.
Every year….more and more companies jump on the “we care about the culture” bandwagon, similar to what we see during Pride Month. Suddenly, there are Juneteenth t-shirts, mugs, and banners everywhere in red, black, and green—like we’re supposed to believe Target and Mitsubishi are down for the cause?
Nah. We still remember how you acted when DEI came up. We haven’t forgotten. Cue to the side-eye.

Here’s the thing: I’m not falling for performative support—and I know how to do a quick Google search.
In a few clicks, I can find out what your CEO stands for, what your mission statement says, and whether or not you’ve actually invested in the Black community. It’s my money, and I get to decide just how much Black I want to spend it.
For me, that means supporting small Black-owned businesses and people who genuinely care about the culture—not just during a holiday, but every day. I’m talking about women like my esthetician Zay, who treats her clients with real love and intention, creating an experience—not just a service. My girl Kia, crafts handmade jewelry from her home—each piece unique and made with care for both men and women.

So as you enjoy the rest of this summer, think about where your dollars are going. Are you supporting something real? Or just buying into the latest “cultural trend” until the Fourth of July rolls around?
Let’s keep it intentional. Let’s keep it authentic. Let’s keep it us.
