I have a long-standing passion for reading. As a child, my mom, sister, and I would travel by bus to a bookstore a couple of times a month. They would let you trade 2 comics for 1. These were gently used comics that started my love for DC and Marvel. I still love Spider-Man and I AM BATMAN! I would leave the store with my bag stuffed with “new” comics. I couldn’t wait to get home. At home, I would spend hours reading.
Those early stories gave me wonder about the world outside my front door. I would read for knowledge. For entertainment. To escape. I found friends like Tom Sawyer and traveled the Mississippi.
I found out I wasn’t the only one that thought ghosts were real. 😂. I traveled with the Arabian Knights and searched for the Holy Grail. I went down the rabbit hole with Alice and soared to Neverland with Peter Pan.
Then one day I found the greatest book ever written. This book has been around forever and no matter how many times I go to it, this book has the answer. It reveals new things with each passage.
This book of ages is the Bible.
I found in its pages, love and adventure; poetry, and glimpses of a future. I found people who lost everything only to gain more than they thought possible. I crossed the Red Sea and cried at the crucifixion. I rejoiced at the empty tomb and prayed with Paul in jail. Today, as I walk toward the sunset of my life, I cling to the Bible and relish its stories. But for me, the Bible has become so much more. It is my comfort in a world gone mad. It is my joy when nothing brings me joy. The words have transformed into a pathway that leads me to a heavenly home.
I am not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ because I have experienced the life-saving Grace of His Word. I hope sisters, in all of your reading you pick up this Bestseller.
